Yesterdays post ( Remove Duplicate Emails and Other Items from MS Outlook with ODIR ) detailed some problems with Outlook duplicating emails if there is a timeout on the Internet connection while downloading your emails from the server. First open the Email Accounts dialog from the Outlook menu:
In the E-mail Accounts dialog select the
View or change existing e-mail accounts option and then click the Next button
Select the account that you wish to change the settings for and then click on the Change button
This now shows the details for the account selected:
Click on the More Settings… button and choose the Advanced Tab
You can now change the Server Timeouts setting using the slider, as it moves to the right the time increases and vice versa. The actual length of the time out is shown to the right of the slider in minutes and seconds.

I have changed the server timeouts on my email accounts with great success in the past where I had connection problems. It is definitely worth a try

Great tip Barry
Like you I have increased the time outs in the past with good results
Particularly when using a dial-up connection (remember those?)
The same tip works on other mail clients too - accessing the settings is slightly different depending on the program
