More About What it Does in Detail:
The Charten website gives the following details:
BitRule is a free screen measurement tool
It is much easier to use than other screen rulers and screen calipers.
Just click on two points on your screen, and get the horizontal, vertical and diagonal distances, as well as the angle to the horizontal.
BitRule measures in pixels, inches, centimeters and picas.
The built-in magnifier makes extremely accurate measurements possible.
To use BitRule simply:
- click on first measurement point
- click on second measurement point
- that’s all!
Having installed the system and running the program the following screens and menus are provided:
This review will follow the usual format of presenting the majority of information as screenshots backed up by further information where necessary.
(click on any picture to enlarge where necessary)
Starting BitRule shows this Window centred in the screen:
The Titlebar notes you need to click on the start point and the window shows a magnified portion of the screen under the mouse for precision measurements.
Having selected (left clicked on) the start point the Titlebar changes to indicates clicking on the end point:
When the end point is clicked the Horizontal, Vertical and Length dimensions are shown in the bottom part of the window in the units selected along with the angle in degrees:
The toolbar allows you to do the following:
Working through the tool Icons left to right:
1. Ruler Icon
Set units of measurement
2. Clipboard Icon
Copy Dimensions to clipboard.
These are collected as - DX: 330 DY: 40 L: 332 (pixel) A: 6.9
3. & 4. + & – Magnifying Glass Icons
These increase and decrease the magnification in the screen part of the window.
5. Screen Icon
Set Resolution – this is used to adjust BitRule to give accurate measurements in inches, centimetres and picas. The method is explained in the help file.
6. Help Icon
This opens the Help File
One Small Issue
When BitRule is running normally and expecting either the start or end point to be defined you can’t drag the utility window to a new position. To get round this you can either click on the Screen Icon(resolution) or the Help Icon. These both put BitRule into a pause mode and you can then drag the Bit|Rule window by left clicking on the Titlebar in the usual way.
