Want Instant Backup for Typed Documents and Web Forms? Use REFOG Free Keylogger

More About What it Does in Detail:
The Refog website gives the following details:
REFOG Free Keylogger keeps track of all typed or pasted text. You can set it to monitor only selected applications or everything that is done in the system. The log appears as a list of entries sorted by time. For each entry, you can see more details including the name of the application and the title of the active window. The log clearly informs you of the activities of each user in the system.
REFOG Free Keylogger offers special support for network activities. In its log, you can see a full list of visited web pages. Using time stamps, you can match the pages with the text that was typed or pasted from the Clipboard.
It’s useful for working with applications that don’t have autosave support. Since the program intercepts all key strokes before passing them to other applications, it serves as a trusted backup.
Having installed Refog Free Keylogger the following screens and menus are provided:
This review will follow the usual format of presenting the majority of information as screenshots backed up by further information where necessary.
Note – I Have obscured my personal IP address on the screenshots for obvious security reasons
(click on any picture to enlarge where necessary)
System Tray icon and menu
This provides access to the main functions and the GUI when the keylogger is running, you can also gain access to the main GUI with a hotkey which can be set in the options (as you can run Refog Free Keylogger in a completely hidden or stealth mode the hotkey is essential)
Main GUI
The main GUI is really well thought out. All the main windows and options can be accessed through the “tree” menu on the left and the toolbar at the top provides access to the most essential elements. Other functions such as filtering, searching and showing “non-printing” and deleted characters are all readily accessible in the relevant screens.
The Screen showing keystroke logging looks like this:
The top part of the screen lists the applications and the bottom part shows the keystrokes for the application/time/date selected. At the bottom of the screen are the options to select whether to show the “non-printing” characters and also whether to show deleted characters or not. This is very useful when trying to interpret text that has been typed and then modified by correction, insertion or pasting.
The bottom part of the GUI screen for the “Keystrokes Typed” display shows not only the details of the typed word but also the center bar gives details of the time/date, the application and the number of symbols (keystrokes). The following screen also shows details of the “non-printing” characters:
What’s more, at the bottom of this screen you have the search/filter/display “non-printing” characters and display deleted characters options. These are all very useful to find something you are looking for or in interpreting the final results of what you were typing:
Here you can show the deleted keystrokes, the “non-printing” characters or search and filter. Another nice touch in Refog Free Keylogger is that when filtering/search is used only those programs/instances that relate to the search/filter are displayed in the upper part of the screen.
There is the option to show the “Program Activity” which again displays all the relevant information in the split screen format with a central information bar:
You can display a list of the websites that have been visited, again with comprehensive details displayed in the split screen/central info bar way:
There are also options to display records based on dates:
and to delete records or logs based on various options:
There is also a reports screen:
Options/Settings
Finally, the Options and Settings are also accessed from the tree view:
Each screen not only displays the options and settings but also includes detailed help information which I think is another great feature of this program:
Installation
The installer for REFOG Free Keylogger includes a very useful wizard which not only allows options to be set while installing:
They also very usefully identify if you might have an anti-virus program that could block the keylogger ( as any good anti-virus/spyware program should
) In my case I have AVG 8 Free installed ( see NEW – AVG Anti Virus 8 FREE – Quick Review )
The wizard also remind you to use Free Keylogger responsibly:

Using a keylogger like this to backup what you wrote is an interesting idea. I don’t know whether it will work for me, but I will give it a go.
A friend of mine uses a keywordlogger to keep an eye on what his young children do online, which I think is another good legitimate use of a keylogger.
