It is crazy to see how much phantom power is used by inefficient electronics. Energy Efficient Electronics are easier to find nowdays though, and ideas like this just help us all save money too.

It is amazing how much energy and money is wasted by leaving products on when they need not be. Even some computers and other appliances still use energy even when shut off. It is best to unplug all these devices when not in use to make sure no extra power is being used for no reason.

panic attack – no secret to finding these just searching the web to see what is available

jbhq – Yes, that will work, just nice to have a utility that does it all for you.

Outlook – I have the power button set for standby so what you suggest works for me as a quick power down/up solution. Having an automatic setting just means I can walk away and not worry about forgetting to manually power down.

alternative …
1. powersaving set to standby at 30 mins (say)
2. use scheduled tasks to wakeup and run jobs required
3. if unable to schedule do a dummy schedule (run notepad, standby after 2 hours)

That’s really cool. I, too, run my laptop nearly 24 hours a day. I just hate waiting for the boot process every time i turn the sucker on. This will be a welcomed alternative.
