Download Edison, an easy-to-use energy-monitoring application, absolutely free.
Edison puts you in control of your PC energy usage by letting you:
Set your schedule
Tell Edison when you use your computer most
Save a little or a lot
Use the Edison efficiency slider to choose the level of energy savings you want to achieve.
See your savings
Edison will calculate your estimated savings based on the setting you choose.
Having installed edison and running it the following screens and menus are provided:

System Tray icon
When running the following systray icon is presented along with a menu to change the following settings:
If you run multiple instances (see below) then each instance will have its own systray icon, settings and Tooltip.
Main Window
From here you can change settings using the slider between “Save Less” and “Save More” which provides a range of presets. Alternatively, you can click on the CUSTOM button to the left of the slider which changes the screen:
and here you can change individual settings to suit your particular needs.
the Non Work Time screen is exactly the same:

Here you select the start and end time and the days on which you want these times for the “Work” options.

I tried this program before and didn’t notice much of a difference in power. I guess it all depends on what kind of desktop setups people have.
