What’s This About?
Winsock XP Fix is a tiny utility whose only purpose is to simply repair Winsock and TCP/IP errors from errors or corruption of the registry, etc. It also makes use of the Freeware ERDNT Registry Backup Program so that you can make a backup copy of the registry before changes are made.
Why Would You Want It?
Sometimes things just get messed up for no obvious reason, there are many reasons corruption of files and settings can occur. It may be a power failure or spike, a hardware malfunction or the action of some malware, virus or spyware. Maybe TCP/IP and Winsock settings are changed by mistake on the users part or installation/removal of software causes a problem. Firewall software may change settings or some sort of utility that needs proxy settings to work. The removal of Adware is a very common cause of these sort of problems. Whatever the cause it can be very difficult and time consuming to try and manually sort out the registry settings.
Winsock XP Fix provides a very simple and easy to use solution to the problem. It provides the means to backup the registry although, personally, I would prefer to create a Restore Point in Windows before applying.
So if you have Internet or Local Area Network Connection problems WinSock XP Fix is well worth a try
but create a Restore Point or backup your registry first

Hi Acakadut,
Thanks for your comment and I agree that anyone should be very careful about “messing” with the system, whether it’s files, registry settings or information held in memory. There are lots of programs which may do this in a way that does not use standard MS system calls/functions which may be dangerous to system stability.
However, there are also lots of programs that simply provide a nice GUI to system calls or DOS commands which are perfectly safe to use. I don’t know if Winsock XP Fix is one of these but it has been around for quite a while and seems to do the job needed without a lot of bad reports on the internet.
System admins will use scripts of DOS commands that do what Winsock XP Fix does so I reckon that if you don’t want to use it try the scripts or the individual DOS commands.
Regards,

Awesome tool.. Due to a virus outbreak (Sasser, backdoor.rbt, spyware, etc..) my local network access would not function, even after removing the offending software. I would always receive a network error immediately when trying to access any other machine. This tool repaired the damage done to the network configuration perfectly! Wonderful tool!

Registry cleaning is usually not enough, try performing at least the following steps:
1. Clean up registry (you can do it with free auslogics regcleaner)
2. Defragment registry (to reduce its size by removign gaps from step 1)
3. Clean disks (remove junk files)
4. Defrag disks (very importnat step – use either Auslogics Disk Defrag or Defraggler)
This should give your PC a boost!

Most of the Internet connectivity problems arise out of corrupt Winsock settings… You will be able connect to the Internet, but the packets won’t transfer back and forth… This article lists the methods to reset/repair the Winsock configuration to defaults….
