More About What it Does in Detail:

The Flexible Renamer website gives the following details:

UNICODE file/folder renaming utility,
which can use Wildcard or Regular-Expression, Tag-information (MP3, EXIF) and script (vbs/js).

Apart from that brief extract there is lots of information in the form of tables regarding the features, functions and development history of the program.

On running Flexible Renamer the following screens and menus are provided:

This review will follow the usual format of presenting the majority of information as screenshots backed up by further information where necessary.

Rename Window

Here is the main Rename Window in Specify Folder mode:

The Mode and Operation type can be set from the toolbars or menus:

In Specify File mode  the Folder Tree pane on the left of the main window no longer appears along with a message that files and folders have to be (Dragged and) dropped onto the main window from Windows Explorer (or a file manager with similar functionality).

The advantage of this is the ability to select files or folders from multiple locations rather than the single location available from Specify Folders.

In Specify Folder mode you also have the address bar displayed:

You can only select a single folder.

Rename Panel

The Options available for renaming are quite extensive with an advanced mode, rules and presets:

Standard Mode:

You can apply filters to the file names and some presets are included:

There is also a Recursive mode to include files in Sub Folders.

The Menu options are:

The text boxes, etc.  at the bottom of the panel change according to the menu selection.

Also at the bottom of the panel are Options

There is also an Undo button to reverse any changes made

Advanced Mode:

This allows you to set advanced search and rename rules using:

1. Wild Card
2. Regular Expression
3. Translation

There are presets available from the Presets button:

Presets can be managed in the Organize Presets window:

The Support buttons also show dropdown menus which allow you to select parts of the expressions:

These change dependent on selected rule type (Wild Card, etc.)

Attributes Panel

Under the Attributes Window the only difference to the main Rename window is the Attributes panel as shown above.

Dates can be changed in the text box or with the dropdown:

Other file attributes can be set on and off or left as they are:

Tag Rename Panel

This panel displays File Types and options based on the type of tag chosen. These include:

1. Music – ID3
2. Photo – EXIF
3. Image – IPTC
4. Document – DOC
5. Web Page – HTML

or you can choose the File Property Info option:

There are presets available from the Preset button which have to be user defined:

Create Numbered Object

This screen lets you create a number of named text files of a specific size, you can copy an existing file or create a new file object of a specific type (this must be useful for something )

Right Click Context Menu – Main Screen

Right clicking in the files/folders list area of the main screen shows the standard Windows Context Menu which allows you to operate on the file(s)/folder(s) in the usual way.

You can also set different Network Repair options which are often necessary to get networking running again from a wakeup event. You can experiment with two different default options or make up your own if necessary:

About Screen

Help

The help is quite comprehensive in detail but a little difficult to follow at times. Generally experimenting with the program will help you to understand, just make sure you have a backup of anything you experiment on in case the undo feature fails to reverse something.
